ITERATIVE PLANNING AT ITS BEST TO DELIVERY 24 QUALITY FAMILY HOMES WITHIN BROADSTAIRS

Despite the secure foundation of a housing allocation previously secured by Hume Planning, detailed development proposals continued to face strong opposition from local residents – concerns that were successively upheld by the Planning Committee (despite consistent officer support). Addressing ongoing local concerns regarding the impact of development on heritage, residential amenity, loss of open space and questions over design and siting, Hume Planning have successfully secured planning permission [through appeal] for a high quality development of 24 dwellings set within a generous and robust landscape framework with community open space.

Through an iterative design review, Hume Planning were able to lead the project team to successfully overcome these issues and respond to further challenges presented through a proposed allocation of open space within the draft Neighbourhood Plan and an application for village green status. The grant of planning permission for this prime site in Broadstairs will significantly boost the availability of quality family homes within the District – including provision of on-site affordable housing delivered as part of a tenure neutral design.
