APPROVAL SECURED FOR A “STATE OF THE ART” COMMUNITY AND SPORTS HUB ALONGSIDE 34 HOUSES SERVING NEW ROMNEY
Hume Planning are proud to have represented New Romney Parish Council and Akehurst Homes for a scheme which will see the delivery of a breath-taking sports and community hub designed by Holloway Architects following a recent unanimous resolution by the virtual committee of Folkestone and Hythe District Council.
Our Practice led the planning negotiations with a large team including architects, arborists, energy and sustainable consultants, transport and ecologists. A key component was scheme viability which depended on all social and community benefits being focused on the delivery of the building itself in place of the normal affordable housing policy provisions.
Officers and Members were convinced of the longstanding sporting and community value of the scheme as well as the value of the 34 facilitating houses which will also importantly contribute to meeting local housing need. This scheme will be a landmark community, health and sporting building that represents a long-sighted investment in the community and importantly demonstrates how social and sporting infrastructure can be facilitated by housing.
