FORMER SMITHS MEDICAL TO BE TRANSFORMED INTO MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENT CLOSE TO THE HEART OF HYTHE

At Planning Committee in March 2021, Members resolved to approve outline planning permission for 97 dwellings, a 66-bed care home and office space following a positive officer recommendation.

This vacant brownfield site provides an excellent development opportunity within a sustainable location and also forms an allocation within the recently adopted Development Plan for the district. The result therefore represents an important contribution towards the districts housing supply as well as providing employment benefits and much needed specialist housing accommodation.

Hume Planning undertook positive pre-application discussions with the Council ahead of the submission together with engagement with Hythe Town Council, members of the public and the relevant statutory consultees. Following discussions with the Environment Agency and Kent County Council Highways throughout the course of the application, Hume Planning were able to agree solutions for the key technical matters relating to flood risk and highways allowing this application to be presented to Committee and achieving the subsequent positive planning result.
